Project Director
Professor Isabel Martinez
Dr. Martinez is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and the Department of Cultures, Societies and Global Studies at Northeastern University. After conducting research with unaccompanied minors in New York City for almost a decade, she developed this project in 2014 to provide academic and social support to the most recent wave of mostly Central American children and teenage migrants who are in removal proceedings. Working in conjunction with Safe Passage Project and Catholic Charities, she directs U-LAMP interns to work with the youth and their families and providing them a myriad of services ranging from assistance with school placement to interpretation in court and with attorneys. This project is also part of Dr. Martinez’s ongoing research project on unaccompanied immigrant minors in New York City including the experiences of immigrant minors who obtained legal status with the assistance of legal organizations.
